Switch the entire concept of data center design

In the year 2000, Rob Roy, CEO and Founder of Switch envisioned the great challenges that data center technology would face across multiple requirements, from security to efficiency to redundancy. He knew the designs of existing data centers would not support the needs of an industry in exponential growth. It was time to Switch the entire concept of data center design.

HIS MISSION

Redesign and redefine the data center down to the smallest detail.

THE RESULT

The invention of a set of extraordinary design solutions that has revolutionized every aspect of the data center industry. To date, Rob Roy has developed more than 350 patent and patent-pending claims covering data center design and have manifested in the Tier IV Gold-rated multi-tenant/colocation data centers in the United States. An autonomous building management system that ensures data center efficiency.

  • The Switch T-SCIF (Thermal Separate Compartment in Facility) is a 100% heat containment cabinet platform specifically designed to power and cool more equipment per rack more efficiently than any other facility in the world. The Switch T-SCIF completely separates hot and cold aisles, ensuring the heat from equipment exhaust never blends with cold aisles in the data center, delivering the highest density and efficiencies possible.

  • Unique in the entire industry, the Switch TSC 1000 ROTOFLY is a multi-mode HVAC platform invented by Rob Roy. The TSC 1000 sits completely outside of the building and works in tandem with Switch LIVING DATA CENTER to choose from six cooling options. The patent pending flywheel design of the ROTOFLY supports refrigeration and temperature controls during a power outage by delivering uninterruptible high-efficiency data center cooling.

  • The Switch SHIELD redundant data center roofing system offers two independent individually rated 200-mph steel roof decks. The roof decks, located nine feet apart, are attached to the concrete and steel shell of the facility. The Switch SHIELD is designed to mitigate extreme weather conditions with zero roof penetrations and provide a roofing solution that is forever maintainable.

  • The Switch BLACK IRON FOREST temperature control system leverages Switch T-SCIF’s heat containment system architecture to prevent event impacts. The steel infrastructure matrix that supports the Switch T-SCIF system radiates cold-stored thermal energy and allows for the facility to achieve HVAC resiliency ratings above elite industry standards.

  • The Switch LIVING DATA CENTER (LDC) is a proprietary automatic building adjustment management system developed by SUPERNAP. The LDC program uses real-time vision and monitoring capabilities to react and make adjustments based on millions of daily data reads from more than 10,000 sensors. The LDC system ensures the SUPERNAP data centers are running in the most efficient manner possible every day of the year.

  • The Switch WDMD POWER (Wattage Density Modular Design) allows SUPERNAP to guarantee 100% power uptime, an achievement maintained from day one. Each SUPERNAP facility is divided into three separate N+2 power systems which are color-coded red, blue or grey for absolute precision. Each client cabinet is given a primary power circuit and a fail-over power circuit, both of which come from two completely separate N+2 power systems. Because each client receives true system + system power, maintenance can be performed without interrupting service to anyone.
